San Antonio Queen of Soul, Inc., a member of the Fiesta San Antonio Commission, serving for over fifty years, is a non-profit, non-political 501(c)(3) organization. The organization's conception in the late 1960s was the idea of Gracie Poe and several civic-minded individuals who sought to address the lack of inclusion of the African-American community in the many Fiesta activities.

Once the Fiesta Commission accepted the Board of Directors' request to become a PMO-Participating Member Organization, they began their annual ritual of holding a Queen Of Soul contestant presentation, reception, and pageant for the community.

Our Queen and her court provide representation of the African-American community in San Antonio's annual Fiesta celebration and various other civic activities. Our scholarships help emphasize the importance of higher education and aid motivated young women in attaining their academic goals.

In preparation for the annual pageant, potential contestants are solicited from schools, churches, and a variety of other sources in the San Antonio area. Once selected, our training program reinforces charm, poise, talent enhancement, proper etiquette, and self-esteem with our contestants.
